Officers of the Customs Revenue Supervision Division seized more than Rs.9 million worth of cosmetics and women's and children's footwear to the value of Rs.12 million while attempting to smuggle into the country.
The cosmetic consignment was sent from England in a 20-foot container with 47 boxes belonging to seven individuals. The consignment of footwear was from Dubai in a 40-foot container with 121 cartons belonging to 43 persons.
The suspects involved in this to be arrested and the illegally imported consignment were confiscated by the customs and imposed hefty fines on the suspects. Pix By Nimalsiri Edirisinghe
