A 25-year-old wildlife officer was killed when a group of poachers opened fire at a group of wildlife officers who were conducting a raid at the Gal Oya National Park in Dambagalla on Wednesday night.
They said the deceased, A.M. Senadheera, was attached to the Inginiyagala wildlife office.
It was revealed that wildlife officers from the Mullegama, Gal Oya and Baduluwela offices participated in the raid.
Four suspects were arrested over the shooting while police also recovered a 12-bore firearm.
