Those in charge of the security forces should be responsible for the spread of COVID-19 among Navy personnel in Welisara and the Air Force camp in Katunayake, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate Thushara Indunil Amarasena said yesterday.

He told a news conference that they should have taken steps to safeguard the security forces personnel.”They should have been given adequate facilities to ensure their safety,” Mr. Amarasena said.

He claimed that advise given by the health experts and proposals made by the opposition politicians had led to the spread of the disease and for the increase of infected persons. Mr. Amarasena rejected claims made by some that many opposition MPs wanted Parliament re-convened to see that their pension was secured and said young MPs including himself and others who became MPs for the first time in 2015 were willing to handover signed documents stating that they would forego their pensions.
