The security divisions including the Police and Tri Forces would be subjected to a complete reorganising, during the coming week, addressing the nation last evening, President Maithripala Sirisena said.

He said that he wished to express his sincere thanks to all those concerned in our Tri forces and the Police for the splendid manner in which they performed their tasks.

“It is now time for us to ponder on what took place, the tragic events and the unbearable pain that has been inflicted and through these setbacks we should strive to develop the freedom we now enjoy and the peaceful situation and enter the future with hope.

“By this time seven or eight friendly nations have come forward to assist us is suppressing the terrorist activities. We expect in the near future to obtain their assistance in tackling this situation. It has become a debatable issue why the security divisions of the country failed to take necessary preventive actions despite the alertness created by several international organizations. The informations received by the State intelligence systems were not passed even to me. If the authorities concerned had briefed me on this matter I could have acted hastily. Therefore I have decided to take firm action against them”, the President said.

This issue was discussed in detail at a meeting held on Monday evening with the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

President Sirinesa said “This led me to take the above decisions. I deem it necessary that there should be a complete reorganization of the security divisions. I am also considering a complete reorganization in the State intelligence units, Police and Tri forces intelligence units in order to prevent a similar terrorist actions in the future.

“I have taken steps to build a country which is safe enough for everyone including our children to live without any suspicion or fear or threats.

“As mentioned to you earlier the country has witnessed 27-28 years of suffering due to the war and the experiences we had gained during this period and the victories do prompt us to realize the values of peace, therefore it is time that we speak from our hearts and not from our minds.

“It should be recollected that during this merciless 1980 decade, when every Sinhalese and Muslim looked at the Tamil Nationals as terrorists, with the passage of time everyone understood and were proved that it was not so. Therefore I appeal to all Sinhala and Tamil people not to look at the Muslims in suspicion or with mistrust,” he further said..
