There has been a positive response from a UNPer to the request made by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to join hands, its General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said yesterday.
Mr. Madduma Bandara told a press conference that 90 per cent of the UNPers had responded positively to SJB’s request to join hands with them. “SJB had called for a merger with the UNP several times and we are getting a positive response to our call. Around 90 percent of the UNPers have joined us up to now,” he said.
“We have also managed to attract 90 percent of the voters who have previously voted for the UNP,” he added. Mr. Madduma Bandara said none of SJB MPs who voted in favour of the 20th Amendment had filed explanations to date. “We will take disciplinary action against them. We will also request our allies to take action against the Opposition MPs who voted in favour of 20th Amendment,” he said.
