The 31-year-old man arrested for obstructing the police officer who was on duty at Borella junction during the motorcade provided to the Chinese Defence Minister on April 27 was released on Rs. 50,000 bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday.
The Borella Police arrested the man at Battaramulla on Thursday for having spear-headed the protest by tooting the horns of vehicles to express their anger, when the police had sealed off roads to make way for the VIP motorcade of the visiting Chinese Defence Minister to pass by. The incident was reported on April 27 when the motorcade of the Chinese Defence Minister was passing the Borella Junction.
Police said the man pleaded guilty for the charges when he was produced in Court.
He told Court that he had returned from Australia after 10 years and that he had no idea why the road was closed.
