The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Prisons Department yesterday surpassed the 3,000 mark. Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said 2,984 inmates and 103 prison officers had contracted the virus by yesterday morning.
Among the total cases, 2,795 are males and 189 are females. Also, 390 are convicted inmates while 2,594 are remand prisoners. Meanwhile, four inmates have also died due to the COVID-19 infection.
