Search operations were underway as of yesterday evening to locate the Covid-19 infected female inmate who has run away while undergoing treatment at the the Infection Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda along with her child.
Police said the 26-year-old woman Ruwani Nisansala, was transferred to the IDH from the Kuruwita prison after she contracted with Covid-19. Her 2 year and 8 months old child was also undergoing treatment at the IDH after tested positive with Covid-19.
They ran away from the hospital on Thursday night. However, the officials located the child from the Eheliyagoda area yesterday morning. It was revealed that the mother had handed over her child to one of her relatives residing in the area.
Police also sought public assistance to locate the woman who is reported to have been involved in large-scale drug-trafficking. She is a resident of Station Road in Eheliyagoda.
