The Election Commission yesterday ruled out the possibility to conduct the parliamentary elections until green light is given by all stakeholders.
Its Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya told Daily Mirror not only the health authorities but also the district Returning Officers and the district level Assistant Election Commissioners should affirm that the country’s situation was conducive for free, fair, credible and transparent elections in the country. “We need assurance from the health authorities. At the same time, we need certification by other government sectors involved in the conduct of the elections until such time, we cannot have elections,” he said.
