The cancellation of leave of all Police personnel, due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka, has been extended till May 15,
police said. Earlier, the Police Headquarters announced that leave for all ranks in the police have been cancelled from March 26 until April 10.
The cancellation was extended till April 30.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Senarathna said that PCR tests would be carried out on police officers who are engaged in duties especially in Covid-19 high-risk areas. He said the measure had been taken considering the safety of the public, police officers and their family members as well.
The spokesman said a number of PCR tests had been conducted on police officers including senior officers who were engaged in duties at Suduwella in Ja-Ela and Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo and all those tests were confirmed negative for Covid-19.
He said police officers who are engaged in duties in high-risk areas would be given full covered kit for their protection.
