While isolation of several areas in Colombo have been removed from this morning, a total of 150 COVID-19 cases were identified from Avissawella alone on Saturday, from the 235 cases that were reported in the
Colombo District.
According to the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, a total of 598 people had been confirmed COVID-19 positive during 24 hours that ended on Saturday night and the majority of the cases were reported in Avissawella.
Avissawela, Kosgama and Ruwanwella police areas were isolated on December 24.
Five of the total cases were overseas returnees and the rest 593 were local residents.
Out of the 593 cases, 235 of them were from the Colombo District,164 from Gampaha and 84 from Kalutara Districts and 110 were from different districts.
A total of 17, 317 Covid cases were reported in the Colombo District from the second wave of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the isolation status in Maradana, Keselwatta, Dam Street Police areas and Wekanda, Hunupitiya GS Division in Slave Island, Mayura Place in Wellawatta, Halgahawatta, Kalipulwatta in Borella and Laksanda Housing scheme in Wellampitiya have been removed at 5.00 a.m. this morning.
Thereafter, less than 10 Covid patients were reported in those police areas. In addition, Aluthkade West GS Division and Aluthkade North GS Division have been isolated from this morning until further notice.
The Veluwanaramaya Road in Colombo 09 has also been declared as an isolated area yesterday.
The other areas already under isolation will remain until further notice.
Also, several Grama Niladhari Divisions in Eheliyagoda and Godakawela areas have been isolated yesterday.
Army Commander Shavendra Silva said Minnana, Wilegoda, Yakudagoda, Asgagula North and Bopaththa in Eheliyagoda and Rakwana Town, Rakwana North, Rakwana South, Masimbula and Kottala in Godakawela have been isolated.
By Sunday morning (27), the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda Fish Market clusters stood at 36, 670.
A total of 40, 379 people have been confirmed positive to COVID-19 from all over the country, including the deceased. 32, 050 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients have been so far discharged from hospitals and the rest 8, 142 are still under treatment in hospitals and care centres.
By yesterday morning, 650 recovered patients left hospitals and care centres.
In addition, more than 500 passengers from Maldives, Qatar, Australia, Japan, UAE and Jordan arrived in the country on Saturday. They were to be referred to Quarantine Centres managed by tri-services upon their arrival after completing formalities at the airport.
A total of 5, 791 people in 73 tri- service-managed QCs are still undergoing quarantine.
