An exposition of the Vishawa Shanthi Buddha Statue is now being held from 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. at the BMICH in Colombo. This is the largest Buddha statue carved out of a precious stone and is believed to bring peace to the world. The exposition will end on August 19. Pix by Nisal Baduge.

It will not bring peace unless people behave civilized manner with tolerating every religion and ethnicity. Rather than carve statue better carve mind of people to tolerate each other, at least monks since they are the threat for peace in Sri Lanka.

with so many statues & temples at almost every junction, our crime rate is increasing by the day, children and women feel so insecure, so much corruption and unrest...the change must come from within oneself to live a good life !

Statues cannot bring peace to the world, it should be done by living beings. Sometimes, one wonders to what extent ordinary people can be motivated to believe in miracles.

Modern Buddhists has a common excuse “I don`t have to go to a temple to follow my religion” that’s where we went so wrong.
A statue cannot bring peace but a unique statue like this can bring someone an idea to go and offer a flower. That can bring peace on someone’s mind at least for shorter period.
Don`t underestimate a power of any religion. People don`t follow their religion anymore and put the blame on monks hair style and politicians. Is that correct?
