As a brand that has been at the forefront of oral health care in Sri Lanka and the world, Signal has always been engaged with the community in creating awareness for sound oral health. The brand’s outstanding achievement in the Sri Lankan oral health care sector that went on to set a Guinness World Record this year , received global acclaim recently when it won Gold at the Unilever World Oral Health Day Global Challenge.

In keeping with a theme of “Brushing Day & Night, Twice a Day”, Signal has been actively involved in many activities built around generating awareness of the importance of brushing teeth regularly.  Signal’s oral health initiative based on staging the maximum number of dental screenings in one single day went on to set a Guinness World Record and reiterated the brand’s commitment to ensuring that oral health care plays a key role in everyday health.

“We are pleased to be recognized globally for Signal’s continuing work with the community towards generating greater awareness of the need for good oral health” says Wathsala Aluthgedera Category Head Unilever Sri Lanka, “ It stands as testimony to Signal’s commitment towards supporting and strengthening the oral health care sector  in Sri Lanka.”

Held to coincide with World Oral Health Day 2015, Signal’s Guinness World Record
for the highest number of dental screenings conducted in one day was initiated by Signal in partnership with The Ministry of Health, The Dental Faculty of the University of Peradeniya and The Sri Lanka Dental Association (SLDA). The 9,334 dental screenings held involved over 400 dental health care professionals and 100 Unilever Sri Lanka volunteers. The campaign reached over 2.5 million Sri Lankans through the awareness created.

Creating awareness of the importance of everyday oral health has been a key principle for Signal which has supported many such initiatives undertaken throughout Sri Lanka over the years. Having been associated with almost every  milestone in oral care in Sri Lanka over the past 56 years, Signal has been instrumental in empowering communities to focus on dental health and its importance in everyday life.

Commenting on the dental health achievements of Sri Lanka, Dr J M  W Jayasundara Bandara, Deputy Director General ( Dental Services)  of the Ministry of Health said that the Ministry of Health is determined to achieve the global objective of 20 functional teeth at age of 80 years and is committed to ensuring that all school children will have full complement of dentition when they leave the school.

Highlighting the importance of oral health as a priority and working towards ensuring that among school going children , all teeth stay intact until school leaving age Dr Dileep de Silva – President of SLDA who has been closely associated with the World Oral Health Day, added that we should   cultivate  good oral health habits from childhood.

With a mission towards ensuring a Cavity Free Sri Lanka, Signal continues to build on its pursuit to ensure the development and practice of sound oral care habits among children and parents in Sri Lanka.
