The ‘Sithuvili’ art competition conducted by the DSI Samson group attracted a record number of entries this year exceeding 100,000. Over a thousand entries, which have won merit awards and above, will be exhibited at the National Art Gallery until October 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“The islandwide competition held for the 25th year has had a tremendous response,” a company spokesman said.
“While giving an opportunity for school children in Grade 2 upwards to compete in five categories on different themes, it’s also a major corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for the company.”
“The objective is to promote creative skills among the upcoming generation,” he added.
A prestigious panel of judges has selected the winners. The panel comprised Dr. W.M. Ariyasena, Dr. R.M. Dharmasena, Thushara Gunathilaka, Chandra Sri Kaldera and Meril Weersinghe.
The judges were most impressed with the high standards displayed by the school children, the spokesman said.
The occasion will also see nine senior citizens receiving the ‘Sithumina’ Award for their contribution towards the promotion of arts in Sri Lanka.
The categories and themes of the competition were: Grade 2 and 3 – ‘Your environment’, Grade 4 and 5 – ‘Respecting elders’, Grade 6, 7 and 8 – ‘Let us protect our environment’, Grade 9, 10 and 11 –’Let’s live a better life through practicing good conduct’ and Grade 12 and 13 – ‘Sri Lanka in 2025’.
Three all-island winners from each category and three winners from each province have been selected.
Driven by innovation, adaptation and a keen sense of responsibility, combined with customer service excellence, high business ethics and a committed workforce for over 52 years, the DSI Samson group is among the country’s premier business conglomerates and is the leading manufacturer of footwear and bicycle tires in Sri Lanka.
DSI products are exported to over 40 countries across the world and the company is a fine example of how a South Asian manufacturer could produce high-quality footwear worthy of the most respected and reputed brand names in the world. DSI is also the local representative for international brands, such as Reebok, Fila, Clarks, Puma, Dell and Avira. While drawing strength and support from the community as a responsible corporate, the projects that the company has undertaken across the country reflect on the measures taken for the wellbeing of society and the company’s commitment towards being a responsible corporate citizen.
