The government plans to build a hybrid energy park consisting of 240 megawatt (MW) of wind power and 800 MW of solar power plants in Punarin.
A proposal made in this regard by the power and renewable energy minister has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has recognized the country’s northern area as suitable to build wind power and solar power plants. The government recently unveiled its policy to add a considerable amount of electricity to the national grid through renewable energy sources.
