The main opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday raised concerns whether the army major, allegedly assaulted by Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka, was under pressure from certain quarters to recant his earlier complaint through an affidavit.

UNP MP Ajith P. Perera told Parliament that it appeared to have been done under pressure.

Mr. Perera recalled that a Samurdhi official, who was tied to a tree, also withdrew his complaint in a similar manner.

“I want to know whether this army officer has stooped down to the level of that Samurdhi official,” he said.

Minister Mervyn Silva who was present at the time responded by launching a verbal attack on Mr. Perera. (KB & YP)

If it is so, its disgraceful for our Ranaviru. What can you do about it??? All these are happening today because of an utterly useless and weak opposition that has no power to fight the injustice taking place in the country. You only make statements but no actions.

It is pretty obvious that the thug Minister got the major to withdraw his own complaint and give an affidavit to the effect that the boys did not assault him. Still there are some unresolved issues here: Where are the CCTV footages and what did those record? Since the case is filed by the Police, can the army major withdraw it now under duress. Then, who assaulted the army major? Is this is the Ars-Charya promsied to us?

Isn't there any other Govt. minister to ask this question from Mervin other than the UNP MP. Can anybody put the parliament video clip in the net. Mervin is truly a curse to our country.

It is obvious all these happens due to the inaction of the opposition which has no spine at all.
