A tense situation arose in Mattakuliya late this evening between an angry mob and the Mattakuliya police. The incident arose after a suspected drug addict who was arrested by the police injured his arm while in police custody.
The suspect had been taken to hospital for treatment, police spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody told Daily Mirror online. Meanwhile the army was deployed to the area to bring the situation under control. (GS)

Jolly good for the police. Who do they think they are?? They are there to serve us, not to harrass and harm us. More tense situations may arise if they try to use these high handed tactics.

Excellent...Police think they are the heros...I am not supporting hooligans and thugs but police deserve a good shot.

The LAW should be upheld for peace. if people are taking law in to their hand there is no other way than applying force.

Instead of turning in to torture Police should use scientific and civilized techniques for investigations. What do they learn in their training?
Rajitha Sunday, 04 July 2010 05:32 AM
but when the police take the law into their hand and act as if they are gods, what else do the public can do??
you should understand the police (or anybody else for that matter) can harass a person just because he/she is a suspect. Bad guys too have rights!

Did you go to the same school as Sanath Jayasuriya? Your thinking typical of a chinthana supporter - all that is wrong with SL

Funny thing is police made the mess and the army has to go and clear it. i guess they dont have the strength to withstand even that sort of a attack.
DHA Sunday, 04 July 2010 07:21 AM
There are lot of untold stories in this news item specially aftermath of this incident....!!!
PeaceGuy Sunday, 04 July 2010 11:23 AM
Police & People wrong here.
Police cant harm civilians unless they first attacked police.
Mobs Can't attacked police station.
Both should have bring the matter to court.
Court Should give impartial decision.
This is the one & only one way left....
