The main opposition UNP said Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake and Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena should resign immediately for approving the faulty method of calculating the 2011 GCE A/L Z-Score.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka told a news conference that there were several mistakes with regard to the calculation of last year’s A/L Z-Score.
“Everyone including Professor Ralph Thattil who introduced the Z-Score system pointed this out but the Ministries of Education and Higher Education ignored these facts and acted on their own,” he said.  “Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said accurate results will be worked out and none of the students need have any concerns. Now the Supreme Court in its verdict has said that what has happened is wrong and unjust. If we’re to go by this verdict the Education Minister and the Higher Education Minister should hand in their resignations.” (Nishan Casseem)

I don't know about education but there are numerous instances where politicians from both parties have mortgaged the future of the country as a whole for one election.

Starting from (please correct me if I'm wrong) SWRD's sinhala only policy.

    Manik Tuesday, 26 June 2012 11:21 AM

UNP or even SLFP Govts never made silly mistakes like this that affected the future of young students. If yo know cite one.

    Nodrog Tuesday, 26 June 2012 06:46 AM

Resign?? That would amount to admitting they were wrong....doubt thats ever going to happen here. Can't remember the last instance any politician took responsibility for their actions and resigned.

    Apsara Tuesday, 26 June 2012 09:28 AM

Resign = prohibited word in Sri Lankan politics. If it would have happen in another country these fellows would have resigned. Rather they tried shifted the blame towards poor data entry clerks.

Even if they resign, nothing will happen. Another set of them will replace these positions.

Oh yes....As if they are going to listen and resign.

    Jehan Tuesday, 26 June 2012 07:16 AM

If you ask Ministers to resign there are many to ask so, What is ideal is to ask Govt to revisit their whole policies else ask them to go home. i feel the latter is better.

    Devaka Tuesday, 26 June 2012 06:54 AM
