The Rajarata University in Mihintale has been closed until further notice since this morning, Vice Chancellor Ranjith Wijewardane announced.

Vice Chancellor of the University and several lecturers were prevented from leaving the Vice Chancellor’s office by a group of university students since last evening.

They were still being detained by the students. The students were demanding that the officials rescind the decision to suspend some 28 students.

A tense atmosphere emerged at the University since yesterday morning when the students staged a protest in front of the administration building where a meeting was being held. The meeting was held with the participation of the new entrants to the management faculty and their parents.

It would be better to close the fowl mouth of the minister than the university.

Have you seen the toilet of a University in Sri Lanka.

    sobers Friday, 27 June 2014 06:31 AM

Thank you very much for introducing private universities and many other sources for higher education. Certain students entering local universities are not only ruining the free education and tax payers money, these fellows are suffering from inferiority complex. They should be sacked to maintain discipline. No wonder some are not entering our universities although gaining admission due to long period of obtaining a degree and ragging etc..

Yakada Yaka Friday, 27 June 2014 06:43 AM

Just a mild reminder, it is the cream of Sri Lanka brains that get into universities in Sri Lanka.
