Only Buddhism,History of Sri lanka ,Sinhala,Pali,Sanskrit and English should be allowed to Buddhist monks to study in Universities. Then they can be used if they want to teach in schools. Most of the young monks once graduated they de robe. They become monks to get a free ride.We should put a stop to this.University student monks behavior is disgusting and a shame.

government spending 4 free education. but they do something else. via DM Android App

Do they have the necessary marks to make the university? Or are these students who didnt make the cut, joining temples, cutting hair and wanting to find their way inside the university? The government has to think of where the money it spends on the education of these students is going to end up. Back to temples or into jobs that can sustain our economy.

True genuine Buddhists will be ashamed to see the video with priests behaving like this - pushing barricades and climbing gates. Unbuddhistic way to solve own personal grievances. As a worst case this behavior may be condoned only for a very grave national cause, as a very last resort.
citizen Wednesday, 29 April 2015 11:05 PM
Special privileges meant for the clergy should be denied to them. They could have taken their problems to a maha nayake thero if they were committed religious men. The law should be applied.
Dharmatileke Thursday, 30 April 2015 12:06 AM
These monks should be educated in Pirivenes not Universities which are for others, how can these monks be kind and calm, displaying rowdy behaviour.
Sophia Thursday, 30 April 2015 03:17 AM
These Buddhist monks are a disgrace. They should be teaching peace and not climbing walls with the robes. Some of these monks should be sent back to school and thought what love and peace is. Disgraceful .
de silva Wednesday, 29 April 2015 07:54 PM
Don;t call them monks. It is a disgrace.I think there parents have done a great mistake.

Free education what more do they want ??? . Nothing free is appreciated. Free education for universities should be done away and when they have to pay they will jolly well buckle down.
MightyAnt Wednesday, 29 April 2015 03:03 PM

So long as we provide "free education" for which there is no sense of responsibility on the part of the students, they will go on asking for more and more.Provide "assisted" tution fees.
Sylvia Haik Wednesday, 29 April 2015 06:08 PM
Sri Lanka is one of the few dwindling countries in the world that still offers free university education. In UK, USA, Australia etc. the students are given loans to pay for their education and they pay them back when they obtain employment. You will note education is much appreciated in these countries. The lesson to be learnt here is that anything free is not appreciated and I urge this government to stop this wanton waste of our meagre resources
