Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday cautioned that separatist elements in the country have not given up yet, in a veiled reference to the Tamil Eelam supporters' conference held in Chennai recently.
"Though we have ended terrorism, there is lot more remaining to be done. Forty years ago they passed a resolution seeking separation of the country. The conference held recently also boosts Eelam demand," Mr Rajapaksa told a gathering at Kuruvita, a south western town.
Eelam is the separate Tamil state which the LTTE fought to set up in a bitter military battle over three decades.
Mr Rajapaksa said the whole country needs to unite so as not to let those seeking separation gain momentum.
He was critical of the leader of the Left Front Wickremabahu Karunaratne for attending the DMK called TESO conference, although he did not name him directly.
He said patriotic Sri Lankans should not go overseas and criticise the nation. (NDTV)
Same old card, from the same old lot. The pro-LTTE lot are not giving up, our guys are still using the patriotism angle. Our starving idiots are still being fooled.

Hey, what is the difference? In UK if Tamil walk alone in night he will be mugged and ask to return to the country from where he came. In SL Tamil will walk anywhere in night without any problem? Majority of Tamils are big whingers? Grow up.....

Eelam demand will remain until a solution similar to once upon a time demand by TN, Punjab etc... for succession from India. Problems such as this can be sorted amicably only when one can evaluate the Jaffna tamil like a Jaffna tamil (never mind being a sinhalese - leave it behind for once), true Sri Lankan patriotism (not race based patriotism), be honest and practice it transparently, human in nature (not have a criminal mind). If one does not have these qualities, this kind of blaming statements will be the order if the day and Sri Lanka's future.

Most of the commentators are Tamils using Singhalese names.Dont worry guys no more eelamas in Lankaland. Learn to live in Sri Lanka same way you guys live in UK or Canada.Respect the majority and live peacefully.

This can only be proved if you run referendum in N&E of Sri Lanks. People in N&E in Sri Lanka have rights to decide whether Eelam is their dream.

Time to stop playing the 'terrorist' card and get on with your act if you want people to stop criticizing you.
Rubert Vanderkoon Thursday, 16 August 2012 08:05 AM
So the nutcase Bahu attends a conference calling for the division of the country and it is called 'Eelam' something but the president still has no right to criticise him, has he?
Tissa Thursday, 16 August 2012 07:48 AM
Pity the poor fellow Bahu. He will get on to any stage if invited. He has lost his identity. He should be made the Chief Minister of Tamil Eelam of Tamil Nadu.
RAJU Thursday, 16 August 2012 07:07 AM
WHAT ALL SAID IN THE TESO CONFERENCE IS THE GROUND REALITY, THERE IS NOTHING TO HIDE. IF YOU ARE REALY LOVE THE PEOPLE AND THE COUNTRY THEN SOLVE THE TAMIL'S PROBLEM BY USING YOUR EXECUTIVE POWER AND LEAVE ALL COMMUNITY TO LIVE IN PEACE AS ONE COUNTRY.
