President Mahinda Rajapaksa phoned Maithripala Sirisena early this morning and congratulated him on his impending victory and inquired from the Common Candidate when he would assume duties, Presidential Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake said.

Earlier President Mahinda Rajapaksa left Temple Trees, after a discussing with Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Cabinet assuring a smooth transfer of power, Presidential Media Division said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

MR did a great job until he destroyed the murderous LTTE.After that he only concentrated on perpetuating his rule and building his dynasty. The introduction of the 18th amendmant, the impeachment of the chief justice, tolerating extremists such as the bodubalasena and maltreatment of the minorities were major mistakes made by him.

MR is one of the greatest leader we ever had in this country, he is very strong and charismatic leader with the back bone. I thankful to him from bottom of my heart for the service he stretched to the country, but he made major mistakes by taking control/ getting involved with the judiciary, amending the constitution for the purpose of getting in to the presidential seat for the third time and major corruption scandals, its obvious that every Politian make money when they have the power and we have no problem with that, but he should have done it with self-control, when you go out of control, this is what happen to the leaders, this is the power of nature, nobody can challenge that power with astrology or any other unexplained activities, also its important to understand that the minority people also live in this country and you should look after their legitimate aspirations also, whether we like it or not, those minorities also will live in this country and we cannot get rid-off them entirely, I wont say that we should divide the country in to pieces and share among the nationalities, but as majority nation leader of the country, MR should have look after the legitimate concerns of those minority people also, if he did that during last 4 years, this election result would have been change completely, he bet on the wrong horse- Mr. Douglas devananda, anyway Im thankful to MR with no second thoughts and I will be respecting to the fellow even if he get caught with corruption issues later on, because he did something for the country, my dear future presidents, please learn a lesson from this situation and try to behave as respected person during your time period in the first position, one day you will be kick out by the people if you do things against them!!!!!! I mean all the nationalities including the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others

At next election the Rajapaksas will cite leaving out temple trees as an example of his decency. We saw how indecent he was in his election campaign . I have completely lost confidence with Mahinda. I suspect his every movement.
