Former Deputy Minister Mervyn Silva was found not guilty by the SLFP Disciplinary Committee over his conduct of tying a Samurdhi officer to a tree earlier this month, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.
Soon after his conduct of tying the officer to a mango tree outside the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha office, President Mahinda Rajapakse had stripped Silva of his post as the Deputy Minister of Highways and also had his SLFP membership cancelled.
Silva’s move caused island wide protests by Samurdhi officers who demanded the government to take legal action against the former Deputy Minister.

How in the world could one expect a credible inquiry from this regime? One cannot blame the UN and IC for demanding a credible international inquiry in to the issues they have raised.

Bimal Tuesday, 31 August 2010 10:06 AM
On a more serious note the outcome of this inquiry is an insult to decency. I highly respect the president and Defence Sec for what they have achieved for the betterment of our motherland and then there is Mervin Silva. This man should never be sitting in the parliment whose past record as a politician is simply deplorable. I can not understand the mentality of minority of our people who cheer at his speeches especially during the last election. To make a long story short when you sleep with dogs you will wake up with dog fleece.
Abdul Tuesday, 31 August 2010 07:51 AM
