Minister Mervyn Silva told the media outside the Fort Magistrate’s Court today that although he felt sorry for his son, he respected the court order to remand him. The minister said he could bear it up as a Buddhist.

He said the Court order showed that the rule of law existed in Sri Lanka under the Rajapaksa regime.

Cases such as this would not have been brought to the attention of the police or the Court under the previous governments. The media gave publicity to this incident as I am a minister and this helped even unpopular newspapers to sell extra copies, he added.

The minister said no one could challenge him or remove him from Kelaniya or from politics.

This is no big deal. All arrangements would have been done for them to be treated very well just like at home in the remand. We know how things happens in Sri Lanka. Those who are powerful are also powerful in the prison. These boys could even sleep at home every night while day time they spent in the remand prison. These are all possible in SILLY LANKA !!!!!!

Huh? What has Mervin to do anything with his sons problems with law? REALLY? Does the courts "Ask for the consent" of the non-politician father of a robber? Besides, if the rule of law exists at least at its marginal notions, Mervin would not be making these "Mandabuddhika" ststements today. YEAH! try to score a politocal point to your master through the ridiculous "late arrests" of his son. Do you REALLY think that ALL the Sri Lankans are stupid and blind to the reality as the VOTING MAJORITY?

    Vernon Monday, 17 September 2012 08:59 AM

Does it mean that there are others who do not accept the court orders? It must be the normal form with politicians (like the Dunminda Silva case, so what this joker is trying to show is that he is different and honorable. There are enough people (voters) who can oust you from Kelaniya. Are the people of Kelaniya and Gampaha district so dumb not to do it?

    DEEN Monday, 17 September 2012 08:53 AM

CANNOT REMOVE HIM FROM KELANIYA ?
THAT MEANS THERE IS NO GOD ?
AS A BUDHIST, HE SHOULD BELIEVE THAT GOD HAS THE SUPREME POWER ABOVE ALL..

Oh sure Mr. Mervyn. I dont think it's a secret of what happens to ppl who oppose you. Your son has only been remanded. This does not mean that justice has been done. For that we have to wait and see how this saga unfolds. You are just using it as political spin. Shameless!!

    Chithra Monday, 17 September 2012 08:43 AM

    What else can he do?

Is this just to show the country " the Court order showed that the rule of law existed in Sri Lanka under the Rajapaksa regime"? People know what is happening.

Time will decide your exit from Kelaniya. This is the bigining of the end.

    Sanjay Monday, 17 September 2012 09:30 AM

So basically instead of feeling ashamed that his son beat up an officer of the army he says law exists cause of the court order and the MR regime.

Public Abilik Monday, 17 September 2012 09:21 AM

My sentiments exactly. And What has being a Buddhist go to do with anything? Wasn't his son also a Buddhist? He Felt Sorry for his son, and not the guy who had to go to the hospital? What are these unpopular newspapers. Too many questions, only Jokers as answers.
