Malaysia Airlines Colombo-bound flight makes turn back

A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Colombo, Sri Lanka made a turn back early Sunday after takeoff, flight tracking sites showed, international media reported.

According to Flightradar24, Malaysia Airlines MH179 was circling above Malacca Strait shortly after taking off late Saturday.

"MH179 is returning to Kuala Lumpur after 2 hours of fuel burn to reduce landing weight," it said.

"MH 179 landed safely back at Kuala Lumpur airport. The reason for the return is not known at the moment," it twitted later.

Malaysia Airlines is struggling to recover after two major air disasters in 2014. Flight MH370 went missing on March 8 last year en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board while Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 298 people aboard were killed.

I agree sunil.But after paying for the extension i just checked with Singapore airline the price of one way tickets to bring us back to Aus.their quotation was $ 1800 still cheaper than what malaysian charged for the extension.That is why I felt it was an unreasonable charge. but it was a good lesson for me.

i was on the flight and no issue just been a responsible airline and doing the right thing . I fly them 4_5 times a year from Sydney to Colombo. Great Airline will always travel with them

@budi, it would all depend on the terms and conditions on the ticket you purchased. heavily discounted tickets usually have high fees associated with changes. this is standard practice for all airlines.

Two aircrafts lost. One was lost and whereabouts still not known. The second aircraft was shot which flying over war zone to save fuel. That is it. Keep off these creepy airlines if you can afford it.

last December I traveled to SL from oz with my family via malaysian which cost me only 2380 .then unfortunately my father in law was passed away and I had to extend my stay for another week and they charged me another 2160 to just to change the date while my brother in law only paid 80 to get his date changed with Singapore airline. this is the first time I traveled with Malaysian and never again .dont buy theircheap tickets. via DM Android App

One flight still cause unknown including possible intervention by a big power due high profile persons or cargo on board and hijacking. Other unfortunately being in wrong place at wrong time - could have been any one of the other planes regularly using that flight path. Blame Russia for that. Malaysian Airlines technical ability not to blame.
