A Sri Lankan refugee was arrested Namakkal on charge of attempting to rape a five-year-old girl staying at a refugee camp in Paramathi in the district.

Police said that N Raja (30), an inmate of the camp, took the girl to an isolated place on Tuesday night and tried to sexually assault the girl after stripping her dress.

The girl’s grandmother, who had gone out, came back and found her daughter missing from the house. Meanwhile, she heard the girl screaming for help. The woman along with a few other inmates rushed to the spot and caught Raja. Later Raja was handed over to the police. “A case under Sec 7 r/w 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been booked against Raja.

Subsequently, he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody”, said, B Udayakumar, DSP, Paramathi-Velur. Meanwhile, in Tirunelveli, a former dental college professor was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a second year girl student of the same college.(Express News Service)

Stop being racist people. Not that our Sinhala community doesn't have rapists. Look at the number of Pradeshya aba members who have got caught in the recent past for rape and murder.
