The Sri Lankan Government had no opposition to the visit of British Defence Secretary Dr. Liam Fox and had made all arrangements to provide the necessary protocol assistance and facilitation during his visit, Ministry of External Affairs said.
“We welcome all visiting foreign dignitaries with traditional Sri Lankan hospitality. Dr.Fox was to visit the country on a private invitation from the Board of Trustees of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Foundation” External Affairs Ministry Director General of Public Communications Bandula Jayasekera said.
Mrs. Kadirgamar was unavailable for comment however her office stated that the Lakshman Kadirgamar Memorial Lecture has been postponed for early next year.
“The same arrangements will be afforded, in the event of the Foundation rescheduling the Oration by Dr. Fox for a future date,” the External Affairs Ministry said. (D.S)
