A Singapore court today (Thursday) sentenced an Indian national to 17 years in jail for killing a pregnant prostitute from Sri Lanka, a media report said. Madhuri Jaya Chandra Reddy, 21, who pleaded guilty to culpable homicide, is to also be caned 12 strokes.
After having sex with a prostitute from Sri Lanka, Radika Devi Thayagarajah, 21, he quarreled with her about the payment and eventually strangled the woman to death in a hotel room on September 2, the online edition of Straits Times newspaper reported.
He then stuffed her body under the bed and had sex with another prostitute in the same room an hour later. According to the juridical commissioner, Reddy's "post-killing conduct indicated an utter lack of remorse."
The victim was seven months pregnant at the time of her murder.

71 years, as opposed to 17, would have been better! The 12 stroke caning should be to the anterior and not the posterior!

Agreed!

The punishment in this case is well deserved and may even be seen as insufficient, but, I would bet that there wouldn't be a single man who uses prostitutes, abandoning his practice, because of this case!
