India defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets and entered the finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2013 on Thursday, and will play against England in Birmingham.

Only captain Angelo Mathews rose above the mediocrity for Sri Lanka with a defiant 51, having come to the middle with his team on 41-3
after 18 overs and having seen opener Tillekaratne Dilshan hobble off with an apparent calf injury.

India's pacemen excelled in damp, overcast conditions ideal for seam bowling. Ishant Sharma removed three batsmen, including dangerman Kumar Sangakkara (17), while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 1-18 off his nine overs.

Left-arm slow bowler Ravichandran Ashwin claimed 3-48.

When we won the previous match the comments were like we are the capable cricketers.
No point jeering at them.
Indian bowling was so lethal. That victory no one can stop. At least we made 180.

It is a big disappointment yes but while team mistakes were there too it was a rather unfortunate scenario. SL had to bat first in terrible conditions. And the in-touch dilshan injured himself. Some resemblance to the ENG SA game where while there was overcast skies and ball swinging SA lost their way then conditions got better for England. Same yesterday.
This comment is not an excuse but this is just FYI as I'm sure half the people who comment here didn't even watch the match.

Yep. But this was a sure choke. Early swing is acceptable, But 12 runs in the batting power play! We couldn't hit runs against the 2 spinners like its a 5th day pitch in Galle. Only person who was hitting was Dilshan. Others went in to the shell like in 2009 T20 and 2012 T20 finals.

Sri Lankan fans need to admit that post Jayasuriya, Aravinda & Ranatunga, their team is absolutely pedestrian. They may keep calling them "lions" and bay for "revenge" with India after the WC finals defeat, but the fact is that the SL team comprises of just chicken which the Indians had for lunch.
