The Human Rights Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union has rejected the complaint lodged by UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena regarding the alleged violations of the rights of MP Sarath Fonseka. The Committee decided yesterday, Geneva time, that there had been no human rights violations in the case of the arrest and trial of the former Army Commander General Fonseka.

The Government of Sri Lanka was represented by former Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management and the present Minister of Plantation Industries Mahinda Samarasingha who explained to the Committee, during a two hour session, that the rights of MP Fonseka had been fully upheld. The former Human Rights Minister had explained in detail the events that unfolded from the time of the arrest of Fonseka up until his trial and final verdict.

The 154 member Committee had thereafter decided that the compliant lodged by Jayawardena was null and void due to the proper legal procedure of Sri Lanka being followed during the trial and arrest of MP Fonseka. (DS)

Finally, UNP itself make the road to prove that the legal action is not violating HR. Anyone in the world except brainless UNP and JVP bancrupt politicians.

    KanKuna Thursday, 07 October 2010 03:24 PM

Absolutely true. If a real friend like Vijitha Herath or Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who have unparalleled interpersonal and oratory skills and intelligence went there, the results would have been surely different.

    Kaps Thursday, 07 October 2010 10:58 PM

Vijitha Herath and Anura Kumara? You really don't mean what you say, right ....

Percy Mandawala Friday, 08 October 2010 12:42 AM

    Citizen Friday, 08 October 2010 04:10 AM

Yes, although the sickness is there the Doctor did not identify the symptoms properly and prescribe the medicine. Consequently, the patient died!

    Wara Friday, 08 October 2010 04:12 AM

Yes, one crime he made was, going behind traitor and dance according to their tune as you have lesser knowledge in politics.

    Wasantha Friday, 08 October 2010 07:06 AM

A donkey cannot do the job of a dog. DR.JJ is a medical doctor by profession and he cannot do the job of a Lawyer. However anyyone can be a politician as it does not want any qualification.

    Tilak.A Saturday, 09 October 2010 04:17 PM

JJ is not the correct person to place this in front of the Human Rights commission. His oratory skills are not logical at all. A qualified experienced lawyer should have done this. Who on eartch sent JJ to this place ? I wonder whether RW influenced JJ to present it in such a manner so that it will not be entertained.

    Ranjith Thursday, 07 October 2010 11:04 AM

MR took all these UNP'rs to tackle the international community. And they will do any dirty thing shamelessly to be in a ministerial post

    MK Thursday, 07 October 2010 11:06 AM

THis is whats pathetic. Even the world body acknowledges that there is not human right violation when it comes to SF's arrest.. and our idiots dont get it!

    Nish Thursday, 07 October 2010 01:12 PM

Even the HRC admitted but those idiots can't realise. Can 154 member committee decision go wrong?
May not aware or knowingly ignore the truth as depending and living on the funds of the NGOs and political parties.
JJ is a person who always stands for western and helped to Christianise the country by the help of cease fire agreements and by other means. You can still see the neon lights that were fixed throughout the north and east that era. Does he support MR?

    jaya Thursday, 07 October 2010 01:55 PM

this shows goverment follow propper procedure in the SF case now JVP and UNP goons will tell that MR has given bribe to HRC torefuse the case.
