A reduction of imported vegetables and higher taxes on agricultural imports is to be implemented to help develop Sri Lanka’s local agriculture sector and help improve the livelihoods of local farmers, Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne said.
Speaking to Daily Mirror online, the Prime Minister stated that there should be a reduction on imported items like potatoes and heavier taxes in order to improve Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector and boost the livelihoods of local farmers.
The Prime Minister went on to say that the export market needs more attention than the import market for the country to develop. (ISA)

" Export market needs ..." Sorry Mr. PM we did not know that before. Put forward and take some action to make sure that farmers crop goes to consumer smoothly without allowing mafia methods of intermidiate brokers and thugs. This is the way to improve local agriculture. But I guess imposing a tax will be more impresive.
