Heavy rain in areas surrounding the Laxapana and Canyon reservoirs have resulted in sluice gates being opened, the Disaster Management Centre said

“Two sluice gates in the Laxapana reservoir and one in Canyon were opened at 11.45 am due to heavy showers prevalent in the area” spokesman for the DMC, Pradeep Kodippili said.

Kodippili said that the public have been warned to be vigilant.

Remove the mud than sending out the water.

    Anjula Monday, 09 July 2012 04:53 PM

what you said is very true. This is mysterious country, don't know what is reality. The conclusion is that today there is no proper maintenance in irrigation projects which need to let space in dam to have enough water storage during dry season. Administrators are only blaming to climate " No raining & have to cut power" .

what ever the state run departments predict expect the opposite of it.

    indeewara Tuesday, 10 July 2012 02:35 AM

really strange.....as some mentioned earlier we have seen remains of dried up maussakele ,victoria few days ago,now it has opened sluice gates........ If Electricity board taken measures to remove the mud during the dry season water storage would have increased....in Sri Laka all we can do is blame game, denying the responsibility, strikes with hardly any work.
