Minister of Private Transport C.B Rathnayake is to make an official statement on bus fare hikes after Vesak, the National Transport Commission (NTC) said

The NTC also refrained from commenting to claims made by private bus owners that they can increase bus fares without the approval of the NTC.

However NTC Chairman Sashi Welgama said that transport authorities have made an unanimous decision to refrain from commenting on the matter.

Private bus owners said recently that no provision in the National Transport Act or in the Provincial Tranport Authorities Act states that bus owners cannot increase bus fares independently without the authorization of the NTC. (Olindhi Jayasundere)
