The French Naval Ship ‘Dupay De Lome’ arrived at the Port of Trincomalee this morning for a goodwill visit. The Navy Headquarters said that the visit is the first of its kind by a French naval ship to the Trincomalee Harbour.

To mark the historic occasion, the Commanding Officer, Commander Gregolfe Germain, accompanied by French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Christine Robichon paid a courtesy call on the Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Jayanath Colombage. They held cordial discussions and exchange mementos as a gesture of goodwill.

‘Dupay De Lome’ is an auxiliary ship belonging to the French Navy. It is 102 meters in length and has a displacement of 4500 tons. The ship carries a complement of 102 naval personnel including 11 officers and 91 Sailors. The visiting French ship will stay in Sri Lanka until July 6

No goodwill on this occasion, clearly the ship is fully equipped for espionage - just check out the rader and listening devices mounted on the decks According to the French Naval authorities it is described as "The Dupuy de Lôme (A759), named after the 19th century engineer Dupuy de Lôme, is a ship designed for the collection of signals and communications beyond enemy lines, which entered the service of the French Navy in April 2006"
