The Government said today that the former Chief Ministers would most likely be named as Chief Ministerial candidates for the UPFA at the upcoming provincial council elections

“We are still awaiting the committee report and unless there are serious allegations against the former Chief Ministers they would most likely be nominated as candidates for the provincial council that were dissolved” Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Sivanesathurai Chandirakanthan served as the Chief Minister of the Eastern province, while Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Maheepala Herath served as Chief Ministers of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provincial councils.

The Department of Elections announced that nominations for the upcoming elections will be accepted between 12th to the 19th of July. (By Hafeel Farisz)

"Unless there are serious allegations against the former Chief Ministers"... This means having minor allegations is officially accepted and it is a qualification. Wow!

Rauf Hakkim must decide to contest in alliance with any party that nominate a Muslim as the Chief Minister of the EP. This will unite Muslims and Tamil speaking people.

So there is a great famine in the area of appointing a suitable person over corrupted individuals. What a sad scenario!!
