Former Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka, who is now under detention, can seek redress at an Appeals Court if he is not satisfied with the Court Martial proceedings, Minister G.L. Pieris said, according to the government information department.

WHAT WE SEE IS THAT PRESIDENT WANTS SF TO ASK FOR PARDON FROM HIM. THIS IS LIKE RUBBING MR EGO ALL THIS MADNESS IS LEADING TO GET SF TO BEG FOR MERCY FROM PRESIDENT AS NOW IT SEEMS THEY CANT EVEN DECIDE ON A COURT MARTIIAL. AS PER EMMERGENCY LAWS NO ONE CAN BE DETAINED MOR THAN 7 DAYS WITHOUT ANY CHARGES RAISED ON THE PERSON IT IS A HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATION. CAN YOU GET LOST SORRY G.L PEIRIS UNDERSTAND THE INTERNATIONAL LAW. YOU GUYS HAVE RUINED THE COUNTRY DONT REUIN OUR LIVES AND THE FUTURE OF OUR SUBBLING MORE. THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THAT US WILL HAVE TO INTERFERE THIS IS THE ONKY WAY . SL ALREADY LOST GSP THIS WILL RESULT IN MORE GARMENT WORKERS BEING LAID OFF AND THIS WILL CUASE FRUSTRATION TO THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE WHO THEN WILL CARRY THEIR MERCY TO THE GOVERNEMNT

All service men including Army, Navy and Airforce are humans as everyone. When they are retired, they are no longer subjected to any service law. Think logically. What is the state of service men? Are they prisoners? What is the fundamental rights such as freedom of expression.

Dear Professor GL Peries.
Your service was immense when you performed as a distinguished legal luminary at the University of Colombo. But as a Politician you didn't materialize your extraordinary intelligence to build 'democratic values' specially within your political platform.
Then as a Minister you didn't achieve anything of significance to prosper our people and in fact partly you were responsible for not getting this GSP+ facility.
Now you simply try to elaborate legal implications on Opposition candidate's lawful rights without bringing formal charges on him.
Dear Sir, by the name of all mighty god, Please do something or take measures to implement law and order in this country, introduce valuable reforms to prosper our people and try to convince your colleagues to behave in a manner where everybody can express their views.
That's what Mr Manmahon Singh is doing to India and as a result all level of population enjoy the fruits of the Indian growth.

Is he suggesting as a prelude to the impending outcome of the FR rights petition files by General’s wife at the Supreme Court? If the alleged charges are factual, the normal civil procedure could have been followed, with transparency and authenticity. Under Martial-Law the civil procedure is not followed and thereby case may be concluded within 3 to 6 months, I presume. Any way it seems that government has got hold of the Tiger by the tail !!

well well, I just read about "A UN envoy seeking to end Burma's bloody crackdown meets the opposition's Aung San Suu Kyi and top generals". A SL version on this one day soon would be "A UN envoy seeking to end Sri Lanka's crackdown meets the opposition's General and top gov officials. :) equalizing Aung San Suu Kyi to SF and SL officials to Burmise generals. Surely SL is much more democratic than Burma, however an unnecessary hate-mongering road map on the creation now in SL due to this worst ever handling of the SF issue. GL has no vision in this.

So a person can appeal under martial law.. ? GL, don't do bull shit work man. If that is possible, why couldn't you arrest him and brought to a Civil court at first place ?
Do you think majority are fools ?

Everybody should be equal before the law and order. Some people speak without knowledge of the Army Act. Some people in rural areas still say that if MR SF won the presidential election, there would have been scores of killing. Some SF's supporters have prepared lists of UPFA supporters who should be eliminated. This is the truth in villages.

Sadly Dayan when they become politicians and gain power all the values they held dear before and all they stood for goes flying out of the window and all that is left is opening their pockets to our wealth. This not juts GL but all the current politicos who have tasted power.

Get lost GL. A person of yr caliber assisting this government in exercising undemocratic acts would make yr esteemed mother & grandparents just turn in their graves. The whole world except of cos china iran libya venezuela etc is appalled at general fonseka being hauled before a military court.instead of a civilian court where he can expect transparency & fair trial.
A learned person such as u aiding and abetting this infamous act is reprehensible . U deserve to be hit with rotten eggs

Law and Order In the country:
Change the constitution as follows
1. No one can arrest SF or his Family members
2. If the wife of an offender cry in TV release him.

This court-martial will never come to sit ... as per the Army Act, a time-bar applies. Perhaps if they find any proof, they could file a civil suit. The 'coup story' is also being discarded, due to an 'obvious' lack of evidence ...
