The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship says 41 visas have been granted to asylum seekers, including eight refugees from Sri Lanka, found to be eligible for Australian protection under the refugee convention, ABC News reported.
The visas of 36 men and one woman, who are currently on Christmas Island, will come into effect today. Eight of the refugees are from Sri Lanka, 27 are from Afghanistan, and two are from other countries.
A family of four is also being transferred from Christmas Island to transit accommodation in Melbourne while their immigration processing continues.
A department spokesman said 12 Indonesian crew members are also being transferred from Christmas Island to Darwin while Australian Federal Police investigations continue into alleged people smuggling.

Australia is doing huge mistake giving Tamils an asylum in their midst. This race is most crude race in human society with huge ego and ultra-nationalism would never ever wants to assimilate like others in Australia. That's the absolute truth about this unfortunate people who have no brotherly love to others. Tamils are generally highly aggressive and selfish race wihtout any grace or compassion to others. This attitude of Tamils has vividly shown in their host country like Sri Lanka. They are proverbial camel who gets into Arab tent.

Protection from what? Time we fully aligned ourselves with the Asian bloc including China & India and ask the Western bloc including Australia (which mentally thinks it is in the west) to go fly a kite. The Caucasians still think they rule the world.

India to take over empty land? Even Maldives will think twice if all Sri Lanka migrate to Australia.
