Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, the Most Venerable Udugma Shri Buddharakkitha Thera said Sri Lanka should not alienate countries that are against it, but engage with them and continue with dialogue instead, to provide them with the ‘true picture of the country’.

The Ven. Thera made these remarks during a meeting held with External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris and former Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake recently.

“We can’t alienate ourselves from countries that are against us. Instead, we should always try to continue with discussions and dialogue and use all other means, including inviting them to the country to show the reality of what is taking place here” the Thero said.

The Ven. Thera further asserted that the Commonwealth Summit would be an ideal opportunity to engage with the rest of the world. (J.A.L. Jayasinghe)

Exactly very very true and diplomatic, but Ven Sir,being a Muslim and a minority i strongly feel affirming coexistence of religions and cultures will have a greater impact on such things firstly within the country then offshore, trying to play down the real problems and flattering government of its bogus strategies with racist agendas does never do good to give a facelift to a torn country from 30 years of bloodbath..i would not wait to see my country cherish by every single person of its as ONE!.

Promises made have to be fulfilled according to "dasa raaja dhamma" Deviating from that alienating the trans kingdom and further dialogues contrary to those promises won't help, Sir,

kiz ,you are spot on. im a sinhala buddhist but know very well about the value of the mutual understanding respect of other religions and cultures. Unfortunately our political leaders do not understand this. They have a very narrow agenda to work on and just eye washing the general public. They taking our country to an ideological extreme.

Voices of the Mahanayakes should be heard above some self-proclaimed tin-gods who want to destroy the unity of Sri Lankans.
