These car races are not only for western countries. This brings Sri Lanka parallel to a developed country. If North Korea can send a rocket to space, why cant we hold posh car races?

Dear, People are struggling with increasing COL. We could do all these when we reach that stage of development. But, right now, we have got priorities mixed up. This is purely to the satisfaction of St Thomas' educated rugger playing three sons, if you sit and seriously think.

Yes I was there witnessing the millions go bust causing heavy smog in the town. Under the disguise of the race (may be the government think that it's another boosting factor of mindset of Sri Lankans as cricket influences but it's not), petrol goes up by Rs.10.
I felt and feel shame on me to be there.
Carlton SN give my bloody money back!!!!!

These cars are owned by the respective drivers. In any race in the world, drivers import their cars for the period. Under car net, Cars have to be imported back before the stipulated period.

Closing so many roads and causing such inconvenience to the public, wasting public funds on preparing the city, do these races generate any income to the government or to the municipality? Why do we have to bear all these costs to entertain a selected few? Why does our brave soldiers have to be degraded to the level of slaves carrying sand bags? Shameful that we as a nation come to silently bear these things without any complain. It won't be very long when they will come and take even our clothes away.

This joker of JVP minister must be referring to the Lamboginis and Aston Martins which came down for the colombo night races...HA HA HA
They all went back.....cause they never came to stay here......The car were only brought for racing.....
What a looser to go public and make statements without knowing the background ....
Kamal Kulathilake Wednesday, 19 December 2012 06:51 AM
This must be in ref to the cars which came down for the Colombo night race...
They all went back cause it was only brought for racing at the night race...
Mr. Anura ....u should be able to get correct facts before making public statements...
Kamal Kulathilake Wednesday, 19 December 2012 07:00 AM

What has happened to SriLanka these days? Who runs Carlton Sports ? If the Rajapaksa regime is involved in this using their political influence they should retire from politics altogether.
Who runs the country these days , honest Rajapaksas or the corrupt Rajapaksas from miracle of Asia?
R.A.J Wednesday, 19 December 2012 08:04 AM
its joke writing an article that they don't have the first clue about! These car's are from a International series equivalent to Formula 1 in their own class scheme... owned by independent race teams as part of a championship run across Asia. The press wants freedom of speech, ability to write articles and convey information to the public... they should first start by finding out the truth, being informed of the facts and understanding that they cant bullshit every story to suit their own damn headline.... You don't need transparency in the form of a few documents that are 'bought' from a apparent officials to realise that these cars have come down with their foreign drivers for the sole purpose of having a demo race and then re-exported back to the GT3 championship in Hong Kong... a little research and common sense is all you need...
R.A.J Wednesday, 19 December 2012 08:07 AM
BTW these same cars came down last year... same format.. same documents... did they stay in the country? Yet again a little research would show that they left the country after the night race and headed to Japan for the start of their racing season... i really have lost faith in any productive journalism these days... seems like everyone wants to write a story just to get their name out... The presidents son drove a Polo Cup car that 3 other Sri Lankans also drove... if you hold a valid competing license, any sri lankan can pay the stipulated amount and race the said vehicle and class... He didnt race a 'lamborghini' and he didnt 'import' a race car... and Yes last year we had 2 lamborghini's, 2 Porsche's, 4 Lotus Cup Cars and a Nissan Z that were brought down for the race and which left afterwards...
Chinthaka de Hoot Wednesday, 19 December 2012 09:45 AM
Well said Kamal. These people just jump the gun, without verifying or trying to understand facts.
Chinthaka de Hoot Wednesday, 19 December 2012 09:46 AM
