Early counting of results in India's general election put Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Narendra Modi on course for a big victory that would hand him a clear mandate to run the country.

Count of voting at local time 0913 (0343 GMT):

BJP alliance leading in 215 seats

Congress alliance leading in 69 seats

Seats needed for majority - 272 (NDTV)

Modi is an ultra Hindu nationalist. India has been a secular country so far under Congress governments. No one knows how the extreme elements of the BJP would treat Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and other religious groups. In the past we have seen BJP party members behave very badly.

Its only in Sri Lanka, South India (some parts) and in some other countries they came for trading. In other parts of India they came with swords and weapons, to conquer and convert.
