The OIC of the Kalawana police Sarath Gamhewa and two other police officers were killed this evening at around 7pm when the police jeep they were traveling in skidded off the Kalawana-Koswatta bridge and fell into the Koswatta river.
They were heading to Kalawana from Veddhagala. The driver of the police jeep who was severely injured was admitted to the Kalawana Hospital but was later transferred to the Ratnapura General Hospital due to his serious condition.
The other two victims include a Sub Inspector and a police sergent attached to the Kalawana police station. Their bodies were taken to the Kalawana Hospital.

Unless, they were speeding to catch someone, in the line of duty, this shows the recklessness of the Police, as well!
