Doctors in Berlin believe they have found a cure for leukemia and HIV. The Doctors working with an American patient with both HIV and leukemia, made the announcement in a peer-reviewed journal. It would be the first time an HIV patient has been cured.

Experts warn that years of work remain before the treatment could lead to a general therapy against HIV.

"Cured' is a strong word. But this is very encouraging. From all indications, there was no residual virus. It's as good an outcome as one could hope," co-director of the Harvard University Stem Cell Institute Dr. David Scadden said.

"I would call this a functional cure," said Dr. Margaret Fischl, pioneering AIDS researcher at the University of Miami.

This is one of the best things I heard in a long time!! Wel done, and great job.

Im quite sadden by some of the extimist comments here. Finding cure for this desease is a breakthrough for the entire human kind. And please be so narrow minded about this achievement. Its not just people who go to prostitutes who get get infected with this virus. There are millions suffering. What if one of your dear family members are among the infected. Wont you be happy?

    demon Wednesday, 15 December 2010 05:46 AM

this is a good news...but i would say that this won't work...

    Interpol Wednesday, 15 December 2010 03:47 PM

This news doesn't mean that you can go have sex with people without protection. There are other dangerous diseases thats transmitted via sexual intercourse such as Hepatitis C , HPV , etc.

    chamil Wednesday, 15 December 2010 06:06 AM

Good news for rich HIV & leukaemia patients.

Gayan Samarasekara Wednesday, 15 December 2010 06:11 AM

If the cure is 100% assured, then this is the biggest achievement by the man kind thorough out their entire history and the researcher should be awarded with Nobel prize.
