Asserting that the resolution to be moved at the UNHRC is an infringement of sovereignty of Sri Lanka, Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardane said it was an unfriendly act by the United Kingdom to lead a core-group sponsoring it.
Making his remarks on the final draft of the resolution made available to Sri Lanka, the Minister told the Daily Mirror that the content was intrusive and in violation of sovereignty of a country.
He said it amounts to an unfriendly act by the UK on Sri Lanka as a member of the Commonwealth. The core group has drafted the resolution calling for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to increase monitoring and reporting on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka.
Also, the resolution calls for reporting on progress related to reconciliation and accountability process in Sri Lanka.
The review of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the conducting of provincial council elections are also called for in the resolution. (Kelum Bandara)

Let us be honest, Mr Gunawardene: The British gave the combined island expecting to treat all equally. But we sent millions there and all over the world by treating unfairly. They expecting the UK to help and that is what is going on and remember a lady from your country is on hunger strike and it can’t be ignored.

Only friends point out our mistakes and urge us to correct ourselves. Those who do not care about us will keep on smiling at us and take no action to put us on the right path

As a responsible Minister you should have addressed the issue diplomatically instead of challenging the integrity of the Human Rights council. Going behind the communist nations who supplied arms for monetary gains you insulted your main trading partners who secretly supplied you with valuable intelligence an restrained LTTE for you to win the war, but subsequently ignored their concerns. Wake up at least now to build a United Sri Lanka a country which is full of natural resources as well human resources.

Mr President, PM and cabinet ministers: make SL a united island and invite all your citizens back. Consider what you need to do to achieve this. Do not blame the international community for your mistakes.

COLONIAL INTIMIDATION by our colonial masters. Leave the Commonwealth in protest, which is a bloody nonsensical organization. Cement firm ties with China and Russia, and tell UK and its satellite countries to GO TO HELL.

Mr. FM, What did your present PM promise to Banki Moon when he visited here in 2009. UK reminds now fulfill the promise.

Mr.Dinesh! You do not know the difference between a friend and a foe? A friend who points out if you made a mistake, is not a foe. But a foe encourages all your errors, to exploit you, so that in the end you become a laughing stock in the larger society. How long are you in politics?

Mr. FM (and his advisors) have very poor knowledge of diplomatic affairs. That is the reason for this kind of statements.

Whether we have provincial councils or eliminate them is an internal issue, and not the decision of foreign parties! We do not interfere in England/Scotland issues, and Boris is refusing to have a referendum for independence. Should we demand this to happen?
REX Monday, 15 March 2021 01:48 PM
Provincial councils are costly, weaken our national security and cause communal division! Why should we keep them? Just to please LTTE- supporters and biased organisations? UN, you overstep your authority!
