A two-day debate will be held on the policy statement made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Parliament starting from January 7, Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunatilleke said yesterday.
He said party leaders had agreed on the matter when they met yesterday afternoon and told journalists that the opposition asked for a two-day debate while the government agreed for it after showing some reluctance initially.
“We will debate the policy statement for two days” he said.
Asked about the forensic audit report on the bond scam, he said the Opposition will take relevant steps to see that it is presented and debated in the House.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Opposition Whip Ajith P. Perera said the UNP will raise the issue pertaining to the alleged sale of land in Colombo during the policy statement debate.
“We expect President Gotabaya to cancel the sale as selling of land to foreign companies is against the policy statement he made yesterday,” he said and added that the President would have not known about this transaction because he would have not allowed it had he known about it.
