SL Army: 337 officers, 8,266 others promoted to higher ranks

A record number of 8,603 Army personnel including 337 officers have been promoted to their next higher rank by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in view of the 73rd National Independence Day.

14 Brigadiers have been promoted to the Rank of Major Generals, while 23 Colonels have been promoted to the Rank of Brigadiers.

In addition, 35 Lieutenant Colonels were promoted to the Rank of Colonels, 34 Majors promoted as Lieutenant Colonels, 206 Captains promoted to the rank of Majors, 22 Lieutenants to the rank of Captains and three Second Lieutenants have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenants.

These promotions were made considering the seniority of the officers, their commitment towards COVID-19 prevention efforts and counting on their skills as well.(DSB)
