Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka today vowed to take legal action against cattle owners who allow their cattle to roam the streets of the Western province.
The Minister requested cattle owners to ensure their cattle were not on the roads by December15, stating that local bodies would be directed to take legal action against cattle owners.
He said according to the Megapolis Ordinance, a license should be obtained to manage a herd of cattle in a shed.
However, he stated that if owners were unable to manage their herds, the cattle should be handed over to the Ministry.
Stray cattle had become a nuisance to the public and often created traffic. Therefore, they would be captured and sent to Embilipitiya cattle orphanage, the Minister said. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

So many politicians, particularly when they are flying on public roads with defenders and flashing warning lights have become so much of nuisance to the public than cattle.

Cattle and elephants roamed this land long before humans. This land also belongs to them. I hope you have heard of Charles Darwin. One of you party men, remarked that out elephants need to be exported. What have you done for the past 2 1/2 years. All talk. Sadly I voted for you in the last elections. I am waiting for the next election to show you guys the door.

Beef is one of the best forms of nutrition . Can't understand why we are so anti beef.
Mewan Friday, 01 December 2017 05:57 PM
Human flesh is also a from of nutrition. But we are better than that right?
Dee Friday, 01 December 2017 06:40 PM
@Mevan . Why don't you keep the stray cattle at your home and feed them?
naradha Friday, 01 December 2017 05:07 PM
This is a nuisance to the public in the city as well as in the village. Stray cattle must be caught and sent to a government farm.
Arnold Friday, 01 December 2017 05:12 PM
With the anti-beef bandwagon this menace is only going to increase. What are the farmers supposed to do with the unwanted male calves??

We are still in the stone age.We need milk, but we import it while our cattle roam the streets. No proper education to the cattle farmer who can millions in Foreign exchange. When they become too old to be economically viable, they can be sold to the slaughter house instead of the young ones. Cattle farmers can be trained by the agricultural scholars, so that cattle become an asset and not a liability.
