While denying that no one in his ministry had acknowledged the receipt of any document, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake yesterday charged that the Auditor General had acted unprofessionally by failing to send him information on the bond issues in the past.
Minister Karunanayake was referring to a statement made by COPE Chairman Sunil Handunnetti that the information was sent to COPE, the Speaker and the Finance Ministry by the Auditor General, the Finance Ministry had acknowledged the receipt of the document containing the information.
" No one in my ministry had acknowledged the receipt of any document" he said tabling a fax he received from his ministry informing him of the same" Mr Karunanayake said.
“It is unprofessional for the Auditor General to act in such a way" the Minister said. He said the Auditor General has no right to publicise confidential information.
Chief Opposition Whip Anura Kumara Dissanayake said there was nothing wrong in the Auditor General sending a report on bond issues in the past. (Yohan Perera)
