UNP Leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed hopes that today’s general elections would be the last held under the Proportional Representation (PR) system in Sri Lanka.
“Hopefully this would be the last general elections held in this country under the PR system. We proposed a mixed system without preferential votes when we were in the government. I hope we could work out an agreement and bring about a change in the electoral system,” Mr. Wickremesinghe told journalists after casting his vote at College House polling station today.
Also he said the Commission of Elections had done a good job ensuring that the election is conducted under strict health guidelines. “I would like to thank the Commission of Elections for ensuring that health guidelines are followed when conducting the poll,” he added.
“The online campaigns which were vastly visible in this election is likely to continue,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

Every government comes to power they want to change the system. But people are hoodwinked With so many promises on electoral stages.Ultimately ordinary people have to wrestle for their drinking water, three meals a day And roof over their head. SL politic's history

Why cant we have peace on this planet. UNP has been a strong party and one has to break it up and cause confusion.

If not for the PR system Ranil would be out of parliament since 1994. How many electorate will UNP win this time?
RAAM Wednesday, 05 August 2020 07:42 PM
Though most people criticize Mr.Ranil for his cunning tactic, but cunning tactic helped him to bring 19th Amendment to the constitution. He should be appreciated for that effort.

Hope this would be the last election for you too. You should leave the party before the next elections if there is one. Allow someone to lead the party to bring the UNP back to fame.

PR system will show his popularity, without any doubt. He came from Biyagama to Colombo Central, to win. A quite capable person of high standard.
Sambo Thursday, 06 August 2020 01:15 PM
Will be the last of him as well.

Hurrah the gimmick created by the great UNP old fox is out at last, and the poor mass of SriLanka could be happy.
