The National Freedom Front (NFF) yesterday claimed that President Maithripala Sirisena had to retract his decision to appoint a new Central Bank Governor on Wednesday due to the alleged intervention of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.
NFF leader MP Wimal Weerawansa told a media briefing, that the President had arrived at a discussion held at the Central Bank on Wednesday evening with a letter containing the name of the new Central Bank Governor.
“The President vowed to appoint a new Central Bank Governor at a Kidney disease prevention programme held in Girandurukotte on Wednesday morning. He reached Colombo to announce his decision on the same evening. But he had to hold back his decision due to the unexpected incident,” he alleged.
He charged that the President had to apparently to step back due to the Prime Ministers’ intervention. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)
