Over 230 people who went into quarantine after attending the big match played between Royal College and St. Thomas' College earlier this month, ended their quarantine period safely yesterday and no one has thus far shown any symptoms of the coronavirus, the Daily Mirror learns.
Sources said that the UL First Officer, who tested positive for the virus which led to several members from the Turf Club Tent into isolation, has also fully recovered after being successfully treated at the IDH and has now returned home.
He is among the 10 patients who was discharged from the IDH to date.
In a statement which was circulated among the Thomians and Royalists yesterday by the Old Boys Association of St. Thomas' College and Royal College, it informed all members that as the 14 day self quarantine period ended, there had thus far been no reports of anyone who had tested positive as a result of having attended the Big Match. All members however were advised to continue heeding the advice and guidance of the health authorities as the nation fought the pandemic.
Sources said that during the quarantine period, medical officers and doctors were in touch with those in isolation and were collecting their daily health updates.
Medical doctors who are also former students of the St. Thomas' College were issuing medical advice to those under quarantine daily and all had been told to report to medical officers immediately if they developed any symptoms.
Turf Club Tent members had also immediately shared the information of all ticket holders with the Health Ministry and Epidemiology Unit soon after the UL officer tested positive, while all ticket holders were warned that if the order from authorities were not followed, they would face criminal action.
Turf Club Members also informed the ticket holders to go into quarantine the same day the UL officer tested positive. (Jamila Husain)

What action contemplated against match organizers ( are they above the law) disregarding President's instructions ? Law should be equal to everyone disregarding their social status. Like Dambulla Mayor who was taken in for organizing a cycle race with 20 runners, all high flying politicians holding pocket meetings in their houses too should be penalized.

The organizers of this match are the ones responsible for the problems which ensued as there appears to have been neither hindsight nor intelligent perception on their part and misled those who eventually attended the game. The consequences could have been far greater but mercifully it has ended with no serious ramifications. Lessons for the future it is hoped.

No action should be taken against the organising committee since no law was broken. The President gave his opinion (that the match should be called off), but an opinion does not become law. In hindsight it would be fair to say that the game should have been called off but at the end of the day no one died from this incident.
